New charges for publicly inciting hatred have been made against two suspects previously charged with spray-painting racist graffiti at a northwest LRT station.
Lori MacKay, defence counsel for one of the accused, Kyle James Mackenzie, appeared in provincial court Monday and waived reading of the new charges and asked that the case be adjourned until Wednesday, so her client could appear in court.
Prosecutor Jacqueline Abbott said the Crown is proceeding by indictment on the hate-crime allegations, meaning Mackenzie could face up to two years in jail.
Mackenzie also faces six charges of committing mischief to property for allegedly spraying anti-Muslim and anti-refugee messages at the Tuscany CTrain station on Dec. 3.
